German media: BMW’s next-generation i3 will be available for pre-order ahead of schedule.

According to a report by German media outlet Automobilwoche on June 17, BMW will significantly advance the opening of pre-orders for the new generation i3. The report, citing insiders, states that the “1st Edition” version of the new i3 will be available for order at BMW dealerships starting June 18; the pre-order phase was originally scheduled to begin this fall.

The report states that BMW opened pre-orders early because the new-generation i3 generated significant market attention after its mid-March debut in Munich. BMW Group’s Board Member for Customer, Brand and Sales, Jochen Goller, previously stated that the market response to the new-generation i3 significantly surpassed that of the already highly anticipated new-generation iX3.

For reference, the new-generation iX3 received approximately 50,000 orders within just a few months of its launch last autumn.

BMW has now confirmed that the new-generation i3 will begin production at its Munich plant in August. The report states that opening pre-orders early will not affect the existing production schedule.

The new generation i3 is currently only available in one model: the new generation i3 50 xDrive, which is a four-wheel drive dual-motor system with a power output of 345 kW/469 hp and a maximum range of 900 km under WLTP conditions.
